The Queen’s collection FW13 – by Pretty Little Things

(BAHRAIN, 2013) – ‘Pretty Little Things’ launched their FW13 collection, “The Queen’s collection”. The collection was inspired by Nada’s latest summer vacation to London, United Kingdom where she was inspired by the royal British Empire, Victorian buildings and castles. Queen Elizabeth II is known and admired for her elegancy and jewelry. The Queen’s collection is a hand-picked selection of statement necklaces and accessories that brings out the royal and elegant side of every woman.

The collection adds a splash of color and character to Fall/Winter’s dull outfits and is truly a statement. The collection is displayed as the Queen’s dressing table, with silver shabby chic jewelry boxes, silver side mirror as well as some British inspired props.

MULBERRY AUTUMN WINTER 2013 – Behind the scenes

Mulberry Autumn Winter 2013 - London Fashion Week - Arrivals & Front Row

Mulberry returns to the earthy landscape of the English countryside for
Autumn Winter 2013, exploring nature and the great outdoors. Botanical-inspired
prints make reference to the science and sorcery of flowers, with a rich dark
palette threaded with crisp and fresh accents. Inspirations include childhood
fables, flower fairies and the magic of the night sky. This English countryside
scene, so familiar in the daytime, becomes dark, seductive, powerful and
mysterious by night…

_MG_4669

Woven into the Autumn Winter 2013 story is an autumnal palette of colour. Oxblood,
Midnight Blue and Black deepen classic Taupe and Camel. Flashes of jewel-like Emerald and
Neon Yellow appear, alongside preppy Oxford Blue.

Prints stem from iconic roots. English check is key, and uses size and scale to rework classic
check patterns in multiple fabrics. Bespoke prints translate seasonal inspiration into beautiful
visuals. Mini Meadows is a mass of woodland flowers, printed on black to offset colours
borrowed from the countryside by night. Finally a butterfly design uses contrast tones for
a repeat print on Midnight and Camel for a graphic print-blocked look.

Both print and check textures are used to build bold looks. Check is layered on check and print
used top to toe to bring new life to classic tailoring and traditional shapes. Layering is an
important part of the collection’s story; it gives depth to the print blocked looks, and plays
with the design juxtaposition between structured and relaxed styles for new proportions.

Outerwear makes reference to traditional English style with its chic nonchalance, throwing on
luxuriously soft, warm and beautifully cut coats to wrap up against the cold. Full bell sleeves
add drama to silhouettes, as does sumptuous Toscana sheepskin featured in multi-form on
coats and jackets for textural trim. On the same theme of casual elegance, capes are
introduced, cut in signature Mulberry leather, a continued interpretation of our craft heritage.

_MG_4867

Leather subtly weaves through the rest of the ready-to-wear, on skater skirts and blouses and
on long leather gloves with trompe l’oeil detailing.

Knitwear is varied and detailed, from oversized mohair pieces to bonded compact-knit dresses
with a subtly structured shape. Trouser options are streamlined, kept to a classic crop or fitted
flare for the catwalk.

Accent detailing is intricate and elegant. Full sequin dresses and tops play with signature
check for a dazzling dash of sparkle, and the meadow flower inspiration is used for
delicate embroidery.

The Catwalk Collection introduces a new bag for Autumn Winter 2013; the Suffolk. Taking
inspiration from our iconic Bayswater, with its postman’s lock and internal leather strap detailing,
the Suffolk is loaded with heritage detailing as well as a new frame-topped closure to
complement the structured leather shape.

The Bayswater Shoulder also revisits our bag icon, in a neat shoulder bag style with a chic
top handle. On the smaller size the postman’s lock is replaced with a seasonal accent – two
intricately carved ladybirds taken from the Mini Meadows print design.
The Tasha collection’s clipper-inspired shape was introduced for Autumn Winter 2013 Main
Collection and is seen on the catwalk with a statement twist. Beautiful hardware is brought to
the forefront, reworking new metalwork such as the front luggage tag and buckle detailing.
One new shoe style is introduced on the catwalk, a high heel loafer with contrast coloured
lacquered heel and a range of colour and leather options. The style takes the iconic men’s loafer
detailing for a completely new Mulberry shoe, with traditional front plaque accent.
Finally, Max the dog walks for Mulberry once again, debuting both a cosy check and butterfly
print-blocked coat to match his accompanying model.

I enjoyed planning each and every part of this occasion/event. It was hectic turning the venue to full branded by Lacoste however it turned out to be really nice! Paid attention to small details like having croco gummies, branded mini cupcakes, croco lollies and branded cushions which added that extra touch to the event. It is certainly an accomplishment..

Lacoste event –> CHECK! Will keep you posted on the next event planned! Keep reading…

I cant believe its already been four year since me and my friend Noora launched PLT back in 2009. We were inspired by the TV show Gossip Girl back then and Blaire’s beautiful bow headbands (we are TOTALLY over that phase). We decided to start doing them at home – this just started as a hobby but then with the encouragement of family and friends and their support it started to expand into a business. We expanded to different kind of accessories and jewlery and participated in many many exhibitions and charity events. Four years later- HERE WE ARE- bringing the headbands back!

‘Pretty Little Things’ just launched their SS13 floral collection in celebration of the brands 4th anniversary at one of Bahrain’s most famous monuments – Bab Al Bahrain. The launch took place at Bab Market at Bab Al Bahrain – an event organized by Ministry of Culture in Bahrain which is also part of “Spring of Culture” initiative. The floral collection consists of a selection of handpicked artificial flowers and put together into a beautiful headband which is hand made by the designer herself. The collection is inspired by the artists Frida Kahlo and Lana Del Ray- two iconic artists in history and in our modern world which has a very similar style of the SS13 collection.

Pretty Little Things initially started back in March 2009 by two friends Nada and Noora where they made the headbands as a hobby. The brand started on the basis of handmade headbands which was the trend back in 2009, then expanded to different types of accessories and customized jewelry. Now as the brand celebrates their Fourth anniversary – they are bringing back the headbands with a floral twist for this season.

The brand will be participating at Bab Market again on the 21,22 and 23rd of March and will be available at PINK Boutique in Al Aali Mall – Kingdom of Bahrain.

Michael Kors stops hunger!

Michael Kors- Watch Hunger Stop

MICHAEL KORS LAUNCHES EXCLUSIVE PARTNERSHIP WITH WFP

NEW YORK January 30, 2013 — Michael Kors is proud to announce its exclusive, long-term partnership with the United Nations World Food Programme, dedicated to helping solve the international hunger crisis, a cause that is the cornerstone of Kors’ philanthropic platform.

The World Food Programme (WFP) has been providing much-needed food assistance to vulnerable people, particularly mothers and children, around the world for 50 years. The organization works in more than 70 countries and feeds 90 million people annually, making it the largest organization fighting hunger around the world. As an extension of the United Nations, it provides emergency and developmental assistance to eliminate hunger and food-insecurity in the world’s poorest countries. In partnering with WFP, Michael Kors hopes to raise awareness and funds that will help to eradicate what WFP has deemed “the world’s most solvable problem.”

Michael Kors World Food Programme

“I am so proud to be joining the World Food Programme in one of the greatest global fights of our time–the battle to end hunger,” said Kors. “Over the years, I’ve had the great fortune of traveling the world and experiencing new cultures and people. And if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that millions of people all over the world are struggling to feed themselves, and their families, everyday. I want to lend my voice and my efforts to this international cause.”

In support of this goal to eliminate hunger, Michael Kors has committed to raising millions of dollars over the next few years through a combination of awareness-focused campaigns, special events and limited-edition fundraising products. The major goal of the partnership is to shed light on the continuing plight of the world’s hungry and to raise awareness throughout the fashion and global communities.

In January 2013, Michael Kors will release a public service announcement, set to air across the brand’s social media channels. The PSA features notable figures from the worlds of fashion, film and music, each stating a statistic to raise hunger crisis awareness throughout the fashion and global communities. In March, the company will launch two unisex watch styles for its “WATCH HUNGER STOP” campaign. For each watch sold, 100 children will be fed via the World Food Programme. There will also be a text-to-donate initiative to further fundraising efforts.

“We look forward to working with Michael Kors. Together, we will generate more attention as well as much needed resources in support of WFP’s efforts to end world hunger,” said WFP Executive Director Ertharin Cousin. “Our vision of the future is a world where every person has access to the quality and quantity of food required to not only lead a healthy life, but to also reach his or her full human potential.”

The new partnership with WFP is a significant milestone in Kors’ mission to eradicate hunger on both a local and global scale. In October 2012, Mr. Kors made a $5 million donation to God’s Love We Deliver, the New York-based non-profit organization that cooks and delivers individually tailored meals daily to people living with severe illnesses throughout New York City, Newark and Hudson County. This gift enabled the God’s Love We Deliver team to continue its life-affirming work and conduct a major renovation of its facility in SoHo, which will be renamed “The Michael Kors Building.” Following his contribution, Kors was honored with the 2012 Golden Heart Award for Lifetime Achievement at the Golden Heart Awards Dinner.

Paul Smith instore gallery event

Paul Smith is a legend i must say, he’s a pure inspiration to me. His story is so pure and inspiring, who knew that PAUL SMITH’s dream was to be simply a bicyclist and not a designer. Paul Smith is a very down to earth person, he always wanted to be professional cyclist however, he got into an accident and was hospitalized for 3 months. After his accident, he got married and got so much inspiration from his wife which together they opened their first store in the United Kingdom.

Paul Smith is very down to earth and self-taught. He gets his inspiration and his knowledge by talking to everyone- different kinds of people from the homeless to the presidents and the most high-ly educated people. One of my favorite Paul Smith stories is when he was having dinner with a highly educated people having philosophical conversation using big words he couldnt understand – he sat there wandering “Theres no difference between me and these high-educated people, at the end of the day all go to the loo everyday and our mothers changed our diapers when we will little”. This thought really made me realise how down to earth he is and that he considers everyone equal, status does not matter to him.

IMG_4124

His designs and colorful prints are all inspired by his photography! For those who didnt know, Paul Smith is also a photographer. This event showcased 33 of his favorite photographs- the store was turned into a gallery with a musician playing Paul’s favorite types of music.. Canapes and really cute branded mini cheesecakes were served around too. Many press, bloggers and VIPs were at the event. Poloroid photos were taken of the guests with guests messages written on the back to Sir Paul Smith- which was later sent to him! He loves these things!
